How it works

Three steps, then repeat

The challenge is old — people have done it with paper envelopes for years. Savelope just keeps the numbers honest and reminds you.

  1. 01

    Pick a goal

The classic challenge is 100 envelopes adding up to $5,050. Or set your own total and envelope count — a trip, a safety net, a deposit.

  2. 02

    Open one a day

Every envelope holds a different amount. You don't know which until you open it, and that tiny bit of suspense is what keeps the habit alive.

  3. 03

    Put that much aside

Move the amount to your savings, or set it aside in cash. Savelope marks it saved and the total climbs towards your goal.

Savelope never touches your money

There is no bank connection, no card, no balance to top up. Savelope tells you what to set aside and keeps score of what you have. The money stays where you put it — your savings account, or an actual envelope.

Questions

Before you start

Does Savelope connect to my bank?

No, and that's deliberate. Savelope never asks for bank credentials and never moves money. You move it yourself — to a savings account or a jar — and the app keeps score.

Why $5,050?

It is what you get when you add up every whole number from 1 to 100. One hundred envelopes, each a different amount between $1 and $100, adds up to exactly $5,050.

What if I miss a day?

Nothing breaks. The envelopes don't expire and there is no penalty. Open the one you missed whenever you come back.

Can I pick a smaller goal?

Yes. $1,000, $2,500, $10,000 or anything you type in, spread over as many envelopes as you want. The maths adjusts.

Do I need to pay?

No. The classic challenge, custom goals, reminders and shared challenges are free. Premium adds unlimited challenges, analytics, themes, notes and alternate icons.

Is my data private?

Your challenges live on your device and sync through your own iCloud account, which means the developer cannot read them. See the privacy policy for the details.

Day one is one envelope
